Current Operations
Joseph’s Home, Inc. currently operates a 24-bed Residence For adults [a legal New York State Department of Health definition] for homeless veterans.
It is located on 5 & 1/2 acres in the hamlet of Valley Cottage in the Town of Clarkstown.
It is named the “M.I.A.” — “Missing In Action” Home.
It shares the acreage with a self governing “Sober House” cottage for four to six recovering victims of addiction to alcohol.
While carrying out its mission to everyone’s satisfaction, its continued operation has become fiscally impossible because the government criteria for its operation are not met by its appropriations/revenues which has resulted in a monthly operating deficit
To reconcile the gap, the County of Rockland’s Department of Community Development has been directing very modest State and Federal funding, earmarked for such purposes, but cannot continue to do so in perpetuity and Joseph’s Home, Inc. is unwilling to compromise its high standards of excellence or incur debt that could undermine the Corporations ability to carry out its mission.
Furthermore, it has been professionally determined that the New York State Department of Health’s Residence For Adults Model — like its Adult Home Model — is antiquated and does not met current needs financially and programmatically.
Ergo, the decision has be made to sell the property and to reinvest the net proceeds into state of the arts residential facilities/programs at another site currently being applied for by Joseph’s Home, Inc. in partnership with the Rockland Housing Action Council, RHAC, a very successful and respected affordable housing not-for-profit community agency with an unassailable record.
Joseph’s Home, Inc. also operates a 20 bed Rooming House [also a New York State legal definition] in the hamlet of Orangeburg in the Town of Orangetown for adults who have fought the ravages of mental illness for most of their lives and now seek peaceful sanctuary that recognizes their valiant struggle and desire for serenity.
Joseph’s Home, Inc. also operates one site with two structures in the Village of Spring valley in the town of Ramapo that provide 24 beds in 14 apartments for the individuals that suffer being HIV+ or who have AIDS and their families.
